Well done to our favourite Irishman at the gym 👀 Nath.

Since joining Nathan has improved leaps and bounds to become a prolific Hyroxer around Europe. Never one to back out of a challenge Nathan hits every workout flat out(sometimes too hard…). One of our favourite things is the amount of chat he has to keep Donal in his box but seriously Nathan is one of the nicest guys you can meet and is very supportive at TIO.

Here’s what Nathan had to say…

 1. How did you first get involved with TIO?

Completely down to my good friend Donal (who I believe needs no introduction here… the Irish boy with skinny legs…)

He told me he’d found an amazing CrossFit gym in London where you can train outside and yeah with work I didn’t really get to see him as much as I’d like and I’ve always enjoyed training - so TIO was a great opportunity to hang out and have good training sessions.

*2. What’s your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?*

It may not sound like much - but when I actually started regularly coming to TIO last year I remember being rubbish at basically every class. And then there’s a was definitely a turning point maybe a month or two in where I felt like I was actually okay - in terms of like “okay that didn’t break me and I think I was slightly better today”.

But I also saw how this humbling experience of showing up and not being great was having a positive effect in my work with a growing confidence of being comfortable in unpredictable situations.

*3. What’s your favourite movement/workout?*

A big fan of anything that humbles me and you walk out dripping in sweat to be honest. The ones where you feel like you give it your all.

*4. ... and your least favourite?!*

I’m shocking at anything gymnastic related - always have been.

And I’m sure you’ll have heard from Donal how shocking my sit ups are… and he’s right. I literally have no idea how some of you can do them so quickly.

*5. What’s your number one fitness goal this year?*

I’d really love to improve my clean and press - but that’s on me to come to more of TIO’s weightlifting classes and I know it’s only a matter of time.

Other than that I wanna improve on my solo Hyrox time and also get better at sit ups…

And to also get more friends involved whether that be TIO or Hyrox’s etc etc I like getting more pals involved.

*6. What do you do when you’re not at the gym?*

I’m very lucky to work as a lighting technician on films and tv shows - which is pretty full on hours wise which is why I don’t get to TIO as much as I’d like.

Other than that just the usual… sat in a wee pub in London with Donal, sipping on some Guinness eating Tayto and chatting absolute nonsense.

*7. One thing people might not know about you is...*

I used to be a big boy until I was like 19/20ish - which explains the calves being decent…

*8. If you could give a new member one piece of advice, what would it be?*

Don’t be embarrassed to be rubbish.

That humbling experience of not being great at something but still going ahead and trying and giving it your all is so beneficial not just in the gym but also outside I’ve found - and you miss that going to regular gyms when you’re on your own I feel.

The environment at TIO is so supportive you’ll never feel like it’s something you’re doing by yourself. Everyone’s grafting and struggling together. And it’s only a matter of time before you’ll see improvements.

Well done Nath, keep reading to find out Nathans workout.
