Member of the month for June - Hattie Cadman

Hattie has fit in at TIO so well with her enthusiasm & determination to get better both being areas we love having at the gym. A regular in the Tuesday PM Show & Go class allows me to control Victor along the way and they push each other to the next level. It took Hattie a while to come down but now there is no stopping her.

Here’s what she had to say…

1. How did you first get involved with TIO?

Lovely Miranda brought me along to a bring-a-buddy class; we thought cross fit would be a good complement to rowing which is my first love. It took me a while to get myself organised (!), but now I’m loving it.

2. What’s your most memorable CrossFit moment so far?

I’ve loved show and go Tuesday evenings. I did 7 of the initial block of 8 sessions (I think) and made progress with my bench press, which was an exercise I’d never done before. I loved the group who came to the session and the vibe we built, and Victor’s encouragement - and I loved getting to 45kg 💪

3. What’s your favourite movement/workout?

I love the playfulness of the xfit workouts: ok, let’s swing from a bar, and walk up a wall to a handstand; skipping you say? Haven’t done that for 30 years but off we go. I feel like I’m rediscovering the breadth of what my body can do after being stuck in some much narrower grooves.

4. ... and your least favourite?!

Burpees. And burpees in disguise, down-ups and the like.

5. What’s your number one fitness goal this year?

I started the year wanting to do a hyrox. Now I’ve started training, it seems further off than when it was just a mad idea but perhaps that is how these things go. I miss rowing a lot, especially when the sun’s shining: if I finish the year back on the water, that will be a win.

6. What do you do when you’re not at the gym?

I do the classic working mum perma-juggle.

7. One thing people might not know about you is... I completely lost my way with exercise in my 20s: I hardly did anything for about 12 years. I rediscovered it after I had my first baby: I was so struck by the fact that my body had produced this human being, and that it had known what to do throughout the process, that I started wondering what else it might be able to do if I stopped over-thinking things and got out of its way.

8. If you could give a new member one piece of advice, what would it be?Get stuck in; everyone’s so lovely, and you’ll feel proud once you’re finished. And it really isn’t that bad coming last! Better than not trying at all.

Well done Hattie
