Member of the month: May 2021

May member of the month goes to the very brilliant Rhodri. Rhodri had been around TIO for a while; his wife Katie is a well-loved regular, his kids have trained with Mint, he did a bit of PT here and then bit the bullet and joined his first class last summer. Throughout the recent lockdown he did the early bird classes almost every day; he's really focused on improving movement and mobility after years of rugby and he gets fully stuck in - he is a joy to coach and be in class with and is a bloody fit lad! Here’s what he had to say when I asked him about his TIO experience to date:

How did you first get involved with TIO? My wife (Katie) has been a member for sometime, and kept telling me that I’d “enjoy” the training. What’s your most memorable CrossFit moment so far? Finding my happy place in the recovery position under one of the heaters!! But seriously mastering the hand stand is definitely up there as it’s been 20 years since I last did one. What’s your favourite workout/movement? “Favourite” .....,they all seem to take you to a dark place but everyone loves a burpee! ...and your least favourite? Burpee with a box jump added for fun! What’s your number one CrossFit goal this year? I would really love to master the various bar movements around kipping, toes to bar and possibly a muscle up. What do you do when you’re not at the gym? Recover from my last gym session. One thing people might not know about you is... My first language is Welsh. Diolch am y creoso. If you could give a new member one piece of advice, what would it be? When Holly says “it’s a nice mover this workout” don’t believe her! Bring on the muscle ups Rhodri! We should probably name the back corner of the gym after you with the amount of time you spend lying there in the recovery position...
